I spend pretty much 100% of my late-game time between sieges just riding around killing bandits with small groups of low-mid tier troops to train them up if you don't play that way you'll obviously value this skill differently.
Well, that and my ridiculously bloodthirsty companions. This has happened to me many many times, and when I win it's because of a Tactics skill that let me bring more than a handful of helpers to each round. It's critical for me in late game when I'm running around with a 30-40 man training/bandit hunting party and you get jumped by 500 enemy lords. I consider Tactics one of the prime skills and my character keeps it personally. I'm not sure if those numbers are exactly right, but in essence that's it.
